Galentine’s celebrations are SO much fun! I’ve been to a few whether as a gal or while providing massage. They’re such a great time to get together with the ladies you love and enjoy their presence. You may be wondering why people will bring a massage therapist in for a Galentine’s event, and I figured I would share some of those reasons in case it’s something you’re considering. Then you’ll know one way or another if you should add massage to your Galentine’s celebration!
What to Expect if You’re Having Massage at Your Galentine’s Event
I want to preface this section by saying that not every massage therapist will do the same thing. This section pertains to the way I run things with my business alone.
When we set up a Galentine’s event knowing things like the following, makes planning and decision-making simpler for the hostess and myself.
- How many people will be there?
- What is the time frame?
- How much space do I have to work with?
- Is there a particular theme you will be using? I like to try and stick to themes with you and that can include handcrafted scents for the oil or foot scrubs.
- What other events will you have going on during the party? Certain things will need to be done after the massage session (tattoos, body piercings, permanent jewelry, henna, drinking alcohol, etc.). Meanwhile, massage can enhance others like if you’re doing manicures we can add in paraffin hand dips with hand and forearm massages.
There are some other things that we might need to figure out as well, but these are the main things I like to know ahead of time.
Once I know how many people are there, how much space you have, and how much time we will have there, we can plan for the type of massage or other spa services to include.
I typically break down the massage sessions like this:
- 10-30 minute massages done on the massage chair
- 30+ minute massages will be done on the table
If you want to add cupping, foot scrubs, aromatherapy, or anything like that we can work those details out, too.
Since these are for party settings, you do keep your clothing on for these massages unless it is discussed ahead of time and there is a private area set aside for massage.
What’s the difference between getting a chair massage and a massage on the table?
If you’re looking to book massages you might be wondering why I separate the two categories for table and chair massages. This again is going to be a personal preference within my own business. Chair vs. table massage is a heated debate in the massage community (almost hilariously so to be completely honest — you need to see the Facebook threads).
I do shorter sessions on the massage chair. With the massage chair, I focus on the upper body. We work on your neck, shoulders, back, arms, hands, and chest. I do a little bit of stretching at the end of this routine to help you feel looser and more relaxed.
For longer sessions, I like to use the table because I can get a little more into problem areas for people. People who have lower back problems or more intense neck issues will do better with on-the-table massages.
Both are great and help you feel better, I prefer to work on the table so if it is a longer session I can do that and provide you and your friends with more relief. The chair massages feel great too, it’s again just my preference.
So let’s talk about why you might want to add massage to your party!
It fits into nearly any theme
Massage is great because it fits with pretty much any theme you choose. Spa days with homemade facials, book clubs, arts & crafts, or make-and-take parties are all great when paired with massage therapy.
Massage can even fit into loud or crazier themes. If you’re going to have a Just Dance party on your Nintendo or try out Zumba and need to be massaged and stretched afterward, it’ll work out just fine.
Let your therapist know ahead of time what other things you plan to have going on so they can plan accordingly. I often like to work with my hostess on making sure I bring the right equipment for the space we have to support whatever shenanigans end up happening.
Even short massage sessions provide great health benefits
For Galentine’s parties, I usually like to break it down into 10-30-minute sessions because it typically fits the time frames better. Depending on how much time we will be there and how many people want to get massages will help to plan this portion out. If there are only a few of you and you have all day, we can definitely plan for 60 or 90-minute sessions as well, but for most Galentine’s parties, we usually stick to shorter sessions.
Shorter massage sessions are great because, even though you get relaxed, you don’t get too sleepy. This is good because you can still have fun and interact with your friends, but you don’t lose out on the stress relief that you want from a massage.
Shorter massage sessions have been found to be more beneficial for performance recovery and patients with cancer and fibromyalgia. So even if you have friends who are in need of recovery and relaxation, massage can be something beneficial for them too.
How do we pay?
This differs from group to group. Sometimes, like in a work setting, one person will pay for the entire group. In this case, I charge by the hour and whoever gets a massage during the time I’m there doesn’t need to pay.
Most of the time for a Galentine’s event each person will pay for themselves individually. The pricing for this will be based on the time slots we agree upon ahead of time (10, 15, 20, 30 minutes, etc.) and if they’re receiving another treatment (paraffin hand dip, foot scrub, etc.).
In both cases, I accept card, cash, checks, and most of the cellular applications.
